Owens Peak
Three days after Mark's, Allen's, and my ascent of Owens Peak, I am still attempting to recover. It took us three strenuous hours to reach the top after having pushed ourselves up the trail, crawled over a boulder field, and veered off the trail a little by taking a much more exciting and challenging path found by Mark. The weather was perfect although we had prepared for something much cooler than what we experienced and had therefore overfilled our backpacks with sweaters and jackets. At the peak, we quickly devoured a superb lunch (thoughtfully made by Janice), took some pictures, and (for those of us quick enough to find the right spot) enjoyed the warmth of the sun in the lee of the peak. Following an hour and a half of some treacherous slides down granite slabs and fierce snow balls racing by at near sonic speeds, we made it to the truck exhausted and (in Mark’s case) bleeding…
