Owens Peak

Three days after Mark's, Allen's, and my ascent of Owens Peak, I am still attempting to recover. It took us three strenuous hours to reach the top after having pushed ourselves up the trail, crawled over a boulder field, and veered off the trail a little by taking a much more exciting and challenging path found by Mark. The weather was perfect although we had prepared for something much cooler than what we experienced and had therefore overfilled our backpacks with sweaters and jackets. At the peak, we quickly devoured a superb lunch (thoughtfully made by Janice), took some pictures, and (for those of us quick enough to find the right spot) enjoyed the warmth of the sun in the lee of the peak. Following an hour and a half of some treacherous slides down granite slabs and fierce snow balls racing by at near sonic speeds, we made it to the truck exhausted and (in Mark’s case) bleeding…

Bob's new lifestyle...

So Bob has decided to make some changes to his life. The first step: Learn to play the flute. I'm not sure what other steps he wants to take, but whatever makes him happy...

St. Lucia

Today is St. Lucia day, so Christy dressed up and surprised me with sweet rolls and then we went over to Mom and Bob's where Christy played the St. Lucia song on her flute. It was awesome. :)

WAY too cold.

I took this picture while leaving the Schramm-house tonight. It has
been really cold the last few nights (in the twentys or even teens!),
so this road-runner perched itself on the porch light by the front
door. According to Melissa, his name is Homer and he has spent the
last few nights on its warm glowing throne. I might drop by with some
snacks for it tomorrow.
