Trip Summary

Here's my (Glenn's) report of our latest trip to the East coast:

We started our trip by leaving outrageously early Saturday morning and drove to Las Vegas. Once there, we ate some breakfast before quickly passing out on the plane only to be startled every five minutes by the evil "plong" from the cockpit (I swear it was a plot to keep me awake!)

Despite the malevolent "plong", we arrived somewhat awake and alert at Philadelphia international airport. We rushed to get our bags and pick up our trusty four-cylinder Saturn and headed to the city of brotherly love (which we later found to have more meanings than we had hoped...) Since the evening had already come, we couldn't take any tours of the historical sites, and decided to go for walk around the ancient (I believe that is American for "more than 50 years old") streets of Philadelphia.

Finally weary of the ancients, we decided to visit some more comtemporary Philadelphians: Rocky Balboa!

We also ran (then jogged, then walked...) up the famous stairs to the Museum of Art...

. . . where we enjoyed some of the outdoor pieces . . .

. . . and ice skated (?)

Between our destinations, we naturally stopped by Pat's to get some cheesesteaks -- specifically, "a provie wit, and a provie witout" (loosly translated to "Steak with provolone cheese and onions, and a steak with provolone cheese without onions".)

The next day, after church, we decided to visit the Princeton Univerity campus:

and the place where Washington crossed the Delaware to battle at Trenton:

The next morning we took the New Jersey transit to Penn Station in New York City and raced up the elevator to the 86'th floor of the Empire State building . . .

. . . where we enjoyed the freezing view . . .

We walked around in Central Park,

visited the Apple store on 5'th avenue, went to Battery Park and looked at the Statue of Liberty from afar, visited "Ground Zero", went for a walk on the Brooklyn Bridge,

ate a wonderful meal at a restaurant in Little Italy, and got our overdose of lights at Times Square.

On our way back to the airport, on Tuesday, we stopped by (read: spent forever to find an expensive parking spot and THEN stopped by) the historical sites in Philadelphia and took a nice tour of Independence Hall.

And then we flew home... after another cheesesteak at Pat's. :)

Thanks to Bob for letting us borrow his camera as ours zonked out the day before we left. Here are some more pictures: http://picasaweb.google.com/glenn.brownlee/PHLNJNYC

New York!

We are now finally relaxing at a restaurant in Little Italy called Grotta Azzura, recommended by Tim (Thanks). So far we have been to the Empire State building (better picture to come...), walked fifth ave., The Apple (Mac) store, St. Patrick's cathederal, Statue of Liberty (from battery park), ground zero, china town, central park, and more. Returning home tomorrow night and will upload some more pictures. Ciao!

What is this Place?

Today started out with church in the Princeton 1st ward which we found
quite entertaining. Imagine half the ward looking like nerdy
physicists in grad school. It was funny how half of sunday school was
spent with people feeding off of each other as to the definition of a
law. After church we walked the Princeton campus, ate dinner at a
Slovenian family's home, and saw where George Washington crossed the
Delaware. It's been fun seeing a lot of Glenn's mission. One thing's
for sure: This place is cold!

PAT'S

After a beautiful yet cold afternoon in downtown Philadelphia, we went to Pat's for some wonderful cheesesteaks. Now we're in Jersey getting ready to call it a night.

Yo, Philly!

After a stupidly long drive to Las Vegas, we are now ating breakfast while waiting to board. Having had no sleep last night, I'm hoping to catch some on the flight to St. Louis. Later today, we will go for a walk around Independence Hall, or perhaps get a cheesesteak at Pat's... Looking forward to seeing the East again... :)

Oh. And Christy is doing well also.
