Nico Pics

Fine... I'll post some pictures of the spawn too.

Drive from San Antonio to Rexburg.

I have compiled a few pictures from the drive I took to get back to Rexburg from San Antonio. For those of you interested in seeing which route I chose for my 1,637 mile excursion, here's a link. In case you're wondering why I went up to Duchesne, UT (population 1,408), I really, really wanted to go on I-15 as little as possible. I have spent more of my American existence on that interstate than I care to calculate. Besides, driving windy and creepy back country roads late at night with elk rutting season starting really helps me stay awake.

5 month checkup

Today I took Nico in for his well-baby checkup. We were a bit late because first, I wanted to wait until we were back in Idaho so our insurance would cover the costs, and secondly Nico got sick and so we waited to do the immunizations. Anyways, I digress...I ended up freaking out for a little bit, but I feel much better about things now. Nico weighs 15.25 lbs (33%tile) but last week at the doc he weighed 15.7 lbs and was in the 49%tile. I guess he didn't get as much food this week with me being sick or they weighed him with a heavy dirty diaper last week (which they did.) :0 But I didn't freak out about that. He's 26 in long (65%tile) and his head circumference is 16 in. (5%tile.) This is where I totally freaked out, because in Texas at his 2 mo. checkup the doc whom I really liked and trusted more than the guys I go to here said to keep an eye on Nico's head to make sure it grows at the pace it has been. He has a small head, but as long as it stays at the 18%tile range, things are fine. If it goes below the 10%tile, his brain could not be developing. The doc today said he thought things were fine because Nico's head is growing, and it's still right on the curve it should be. But, alas, I wasn't so sure.

So when we got home I decided to measure Nico's head myself because I wasn't convinced the nurse measured him correctly. (I know, I totally judged her, but you might too considering she looked barely old enough to be out of High School, crazy hair and make-up, not really had the look of a nurse who actually knew what she was doing and cared about her job and making accurate measurements...) So, according to my measurements (which I did twice), Nico's head is 16.75 in. So, if I take the average of both of our measurements We get 16.5 in for head circumference. Here is where I love the internet. According to the WHO, if Nico even has a 16.25 in head circum., he's right on track as to where he should be. Then, there's all these wonderful people who have blogs and talk about their kids, and a lot of their 5 month olds had a head circumference of 16.75 in and they were in the 60th %tile. So, I don't think I'm going to worry about it. Nico seems fine and healthy, is reaching all the developmental milestones, and I learned that just a little bit of an error in measurement goes a long ways with percentiles.

Nico and Annabelle

Tonight we went over to Michael and Lindsey's new house and spent some time with them. It was a fun evening and I loved watching Annabelle interact with Nico. This picture was just super-cute. Nico was playing on his little gym mat, and Annabelle laid down and started playing with him.

Solids

We started Nico on solids this week. As much as I thought solids would be much easier, it hasn't been very successful. I think he's not quite ready. Instead of swallowing the cereal he just spits it back out -the thrust reflex is still a little too strong. So, I think we might wait a month to try it again. WHO and UNICEF (according to google) strongly recommend waiting until the baby is at least six months old before starting solids. So, in the mean time, does anyone have any suggestions on how to get Nico to take formula? My milk production isn't keeping pace with his needs, yet he refuses to take any formula...

Texas catchup

Now back in Rexburg, I thought I would upload a few pics that never made it to the web while we were still in San Antonio. All three of us agree that we miss being there. Below are two albums of photos from our last few weeks there.

He Rolled Over!

In case you don't get the title of the post, Nico rolled over all by himself yesterday. I'm such a proud mother! We put him in my parents' room where they have a full-length mirror for tummy time and he just looked up, leaned his head, and rolled over. Now, I try to put him on his tummy and he'll roll over within a couple seconds. Too bad his pappa missed it, but we get to see him back in Rexburg tomorrow. I took a video of it, but don't have my cable to upload it. Hopefully we can post it soon. We've been sick this week, but I think we're getting better. Not looking forward to the drive to Vegas and then flight when I'm feeling sick and my little boy feels the same way. Not good times...
